In the seventh period, I handled a class for VIII C on the topic "Prepositions" using the Direct Instruction Model. The lesson went well with PPT, activity cards, and charts making the concept clear and engaging. Students actively participated in both guided and independent practice, and the learning outcomes were achieved.

#Thirty- ninth Day of Teaching Practice Phase I

I reached the school campus at 9:05 a.m. and signed the attendance register as usual. During the day, I handled classes for VII C in the third and sixth periods. In the fourth period, which was given to me as a substitution, I helped the VIII C students clear their doubts related to grammar and other textbook activities.

The lesson on R.K. Narayan’s "Engine Trouble" began with an engaging discussion on students’ favourite objects, linking their responses to the theme of emotional attachment. The teacher then introduced the new passage, read it aloud expressively, and guided the students through track reading and vocabulary refinement using examples and visuals. Students participated actively in discussions, answered comprehension and higher-order questions thoughtfully, and completed a discourse construction activity by rearranging jumbled sentences in the correct order. The class concluded with an assignment where students were asked to write a short four-line stanza about something they love or admire.

In the afternoon, I assisted with the mid-day meal distribution.

As part of the Gandhidarshan observance, a patriotic song (desabhakthi ganam) and an extempore competition were conducted.

In the sixth period, I continued with the lesson on R.K. Narayan’s " Engine Trouble" and  focused on the passage from “Soon I received a second notice” to “all and sundry.” The main objective was to help students understand how the narrator’s prize becomes a financial burden and to appreciate the humour and irony in the story. The class began with an informal interaction to build rapport, followed by a link talk connecting the previous portion with the new one. The teacher read the passage aloud with proper intonation, and students listened attentively and participated in track reading to identify difficult words. Vocabulary was refined through examples, pictures, and blackboard use. During scaffolded reading, students read aloud and answered comprehension questions, showing good understanding. The JAM (Just a Minute) activity on “My Troubles with the Road Engine” encouraged creative expression and confidence in speaking. For the assignment, students wrote a formal letter to the municipality requesting more time to remove the engine.

#Fortieth Day of Teaching Practice Phase I

Today, I reached the school by 9:45 a.m. and signed the attendance register. I handled two classes for VIII C standard students, in the first and fifth periods.

The lesson on R.K. Narayan’s “Engine Trouble” ( (" someone suggested" to "out of the ground ") aimed to help students read, comprehend, and analyze the humorous story while identifying the problems, causes, and effects faced by the narrator. The class began with an informal interaction that helped build rapport and made students comfortable and active. As part of the entry activity, an image of a road engine was shown using ICT, which sparked curiosity and provided a smooth link to the day’s topic.

During the loud and track reading sessions, students paid close attention to pronunciation and expression, improving their reading fluency. The vocabulary refinement activity, supported by pictures and short video clips, made meanings clearer and maintained student interest. In the scaffolded discussion, students confidently answered comprehension questions and identified the narrator’s challenges, analyzing their causes and effects effectively. The teaching aids—coursebook, blackboard, and ICT resources—enhanced understanding and engagement. The review and follow-up session helped reinforce key ideas, and the assignment to find synonyms from the passage strengthened vocabulary learning.

During the third period, I engaged the students by presenting my innovative work for the third semester based on the chapter "Little Things Matter" by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. I made an animated video by using  artificial intelligence. The presentation was wonderful, and the students enjoyed it thoroughly. They shared their valuable responses, expressing that they liked it very much and it helped them revisit the chapter again.

In the afternoon, I assisted in distributing the midday meal.

During the 5th period, I continued with  the lesson “Engine Trouble" (" I became desperate " to " a day's feed"). The class began with a short recap and an entry activity showing a picture of an elephant pushing a heavy object, which captured the students’ interest. Through model reading and discussion, students explored how the narrator dealt with an unusual problem and learned new vocabulary. The Character–Emotion Chart activity helped them analyze the story effectively. In the review session, students summarized the lesson and clarified their doubts. The assignment encouraged critical thinking about the narrator’s actions.
